Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Anaesthesia & Patient Care
Perform general anaesthesia for companion animals, including exotic species (birds, rabbits, etc.).
Assess animals pre-operatively by reviewing medical history and evaluating health status for anaesthesia suitability.
Prepare and calculate accurate doses of anaesthetic drugs under veterinarian instructions.
Assist in induction, maintenance, and recovery of animals under anaesthesia.
Monitor vital signs during anaesthesia using multiparameter monitors and report abnormalities.
Implement corrective measures as directed by veterinarians to ensure patient safety.
Ensure smooth post-anaesthesia recovery, administer prescribed pain relief, and provide comfort to animals.
Place catheters and prepare patients for anaesthesia while performing routine nursing duties.
Equipment Management
Set up, maintain, and perform regular checks of anaesthesia equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
Report any malfunctions or repairs needed for anaesthesia machines and associated equipment.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records of drug administration, inventory, and patient medical records.
Ensure controlled drugs and inventory are properly managed.
Collaboration & Training
Work closely with veterinary surgeons, nurses, and patient care assistants to ensure smooth workflow.
Participate in case discussions, team meetings, surgical rounds, and training sessions.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff on anaesthesia protocols and procedures.
Key Requirements:
Min Diploma in veterinary technology/nursing.
Experience in a GP veterinary clinic/hospital would be advantageous.
